Xu Bing's Solo Exhibition Inaugurates in Valencia, Spain

From February 15 to May 5, 2019, Consorci de Museus de La Comunitat Valenciana presents Xu Bing’s new solo exhibition, Xu Bing: Art for the People located at Center del Carme, Valencia, Spain.

This exhibition will showcase a selection of Xu Bing’s most important works including Art for the People, Book from the Sky, Book from the Ground, Square Word Calligraphy, Background Story, and The Character of Characters. Xu also wrote a new piece of Square Word Calligraphy of an ancient Valencian poem "El bon poble". As the curator Marta Millet Moreno says, “Xu’s interest in language and texts originates from his personal background and he transports these experiences to his art, where traditional art and conceptual art, Eastern and Western cultures, are intrinsically connected.”

Accompanying the exhibition, the museum is also going to release the Valencian edition of Book From the Ground: From Point to Point. As the curator notes, “Book From the Ground contains short stories, written only with emoticons and pictograms known worldwide. With this even more universal system, without letters or characters, the book can be read by everyone, without the reader’s idiomatic knowledge causing an obstacle to its comprehension.” The readers will be able to purchase the book at the museum bookstore.

The exhibition opening starts at 8:00 PM on February 15, 2019 and is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit:
